Answers to your New Construction Radon Mitigation questions

Frequently Asked Questions on Radon Systems for New Construction

Here are answers to frequent queries regarding radon systems in new construction. Feel free to contact us with additional questions.

Because radon occurs naturally in the soil and rocks beneath your home, it doesn’t discriminate between a brand new house and one that’s been around for centuries. If air can enter the building from below, so can radon gas.

Yes, homes equipped with radon mitigation systems often see increased marketability as savvy buyers value the added layer of safety.

Our systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with your home’s construction, so they remain discreet yet efficient, with low to no aesthetic impact on your space.

Iowa presently requires Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC) for public schools, and some municipalities and counties require it for new homes, while others do not. Simply stated, good builders incorporate RRNC in new homes, and these passive systems can save lives.

As of January 2025, a bill – HF82 – has been introduced in the Iowa House that would update the building codes to require passive radon mitigation in all newly constructed single-family and two-family homes in Iowa.

The only ongoing cost of running a mitigation system is the electricity needed to power the fan. This cost depends on several factors, such as the type of soil beneath your home’s foundation and the fan that’s required. Plan on spending between $25 and $100 per year to run your mitigation system.

Post-installation, rigorous radon level testing is performed to confirm the system’s functionality, ensuring your home is as safe as possible.
